November 6th, 2008 through the end of the School year 2009!

Southwest High School Fly Fishing Club has sent in invite to our club asking for help.  They would love your help in getting this after school program started!  Last year they had a successful Introductory Fly Fishing Club.  By Student request, this Club will become an after-school program this year.  They are committed to being a fly fishing club and have several active students.  They meet Thursdays from 3:15pm to 4:45pm, First and Third Thursdays of every month, Starting November 6, 2008.

If you can help by donating an hour and a half of fun, education, and/or activities to a group of students of all skill levels, please contact Evan Griggs, thier student advisor (952) 261-2672 or thier teacher advisor, Mitch Galinson at (612) 202-9485.

Directions:
From Highway 100: Travel east on 50th Street to Chowen Ave (Woullet Bakery is on the corner). Turn North onto Chowen. At the second stop sign, Chowen takes a slight jog to the left. Continue North one more block and Southwest is at the top of the hill.

From Crosstown/62: Take the France Avenue exit. Turn North on France Avenue and continue to 50th Street. Turn Right on France to Chowen Ave (Woullet Bakery is on the corner). Turn North onto Chowen. At the second stop sign, Chowen takes a slight jog to the left.  Continue North one more block and Southwest is at the top of the hill.

Rush River Clean up:

If you would like to help witht the Rush River Clean up, you can meet at the Ellsworth Rod and Gun Club at 8a.m. Saturday April 25th. Bring gloves and/or waders and any litter picking tools you may prefer. Bring a carload of friends. Bags, instructions and lunch will be provided. Dress for the weather as we clean rain or shine, unless there is severe weather.

Great Waters Fly Fishing Expo:

The Great Waters Fly Fishing Expo is this weekend, March 6th-8th, 2009, come check out the many seminars and fly fishing exhibitors.

We hope to see you there!


Get your Bamboo fix!

Saturday, September 15th, 2008 from 10am to 2pm.   Bamboo rod makers and aficionados will be gathering at the Park along the Rush River in Martel, Wisconsin.  This is an informal event where you can look at great cane and talk shop about them. 


Tiers needed for the MN State Fair!

We have a great opportunity on August 30th (10am - 3pm) to show some of your fly tying skills, pass out "Buggy" Business Cards, and enjoy a great day at the Fair.  For more details contact Bob Anderson or Bob Feiker.


Mill Stream Day!

Nothing brings a group of people together better than an old fashioned picnic… especially when the common thread that joins people in understanding, preservation, and stewardship of our watersheds...the source and wellsprings of our communities.

Mill Stream Day is a pleasant mix of educational and recreational opportunities; demonstrations, food, music, dancing, and fun. If you can attend it will be at Burris Park, in Marine On St. Croix, on Sunday, May 17th, from Noon until 4PM, and help celebrate the 10th anniversary of Mill Stream Day! 

  • Learn how to become a better steward to your watershed.

  • Explore fly tying, casting and rod building with local experts.

  • Feast on trout and wild rice brats for lunch... with or without adult refreshments

  • Enjoy the blue grass music of Brian Wicklund and his friend's.

  • Help all of the kids and the Morris Dancers raise the May Pole.

  • Satisfy your sweet-tooth at an old fashioned bake sale.

 



Reminder Membership Dues for 2009

Reminder to all current club members that your annual membership dues need to be paid before the end of April.
