What scientific evidence exists that proves that the positions of the planets have an effect on us?

Without going into highly technical information, let it be said that there are theories that suggest a type of electromagnetism can explain the impact the planetary positions have on our lives. Gauquelin

Michel Gauquelin was a French statistician who was highly skeptical of the validity of astrology. In his book, Written in the Stars, he outlines the research he conducted to find out if there was a correlation between a person's chosen profession and their natal chart.

Gauquelin divided up the wheel of the chart into different segments than the house systems commonly used by astrologers. He found that people of certain professions tend to have the same planets in these critical segments with a greater frequency than statistical average. Not only that, but he also found an effect that he titled the "theory of eminence." Not only did he find that people established in their chosen fields have a greater than statistical chance of having those planets in these important fields, he also noted that the more eminent a person is in their field, the greater the likelihood that those planets will be found in those critical segments. For example, doctors were found to have the planet of Saturn in these critical segments. If you take a typical general practice physician, the chance that he or she has Saturn in that critical position is much less than in the chart of a highly prominent physician, one who is frequently published and renowned in the field. In other words, the more prominent you are in your field, the greater the chances that you will have the corresponding planet in the critical field of the wheel.

Fertility Cycles

About 50 years ago a Czechoslovakian physician by the name of Eugene Jonas formulated some theories of fertility cycles based upon study and research. His theories, which he later put into practice, were as follows:

1. Women have more than one fertility cycle. In addition to the standard period of ovulation calculated to occur two weeks following the last menstrual cycle, Jonas concluded that women can also conceive when the sun and moon duplicate the angle at which they were sitting at the moment the woman was born. In fact, according to his studies, he found that conception occurred with greater frequency during this sol-lunar cycle than during the standard ovulation cycle.

2. The gender of the child is determined by the sign of the zodiac in which the moon sits at the time of conception. If the moon is in a feminine sign at conception, a girl will be conceived. If the moon is in a masculine sign, a boy will be conceived. He was able to predict the sex of a child with an accuracy rate of greater than 90 percent.

3. The position of some of the outer planets influences the viability of the fetus.

Using these theories, Jonas was able to help women in two different capacities. First, he was able to help women use these sol-lunar cycles as a natural form of birth control. Second, he was able to help women who were seemingly non-fertile to become pregnant. In numerous instances he was able to help women conceive a child of a desired gender. These theories were outlined in the book Astrological Birth Control, by Sheila Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder, authors of Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain.

Signs of Mental Illness, by Mitchell E. Gibson, MD

Dr. Gibson outlines his studies regarding the declination of the planets (a) at the time of the birth of people with obvious psychological disorders and (b) the dates of significant international events, such as the Jonestown Massacre, Pearl Harbor and others. He found impressive statistical data that suggest a correlation between the aberrant nature of these people and events with respect to planetary declinations.
