Beginning Silversmithing

My focus in the beginning class is on mastering soldering techniques, as I feel this is the most essential skill to learn. Once you have mastered soldering with hard solder, you can create just about any sort of fabricated silver jewelry you might envision. As far as stone setting goes, the beginning class teaches round or oval bezel setting. In addition to these skills, I also spend quite a bit of time on developing good tool habits. What I mean by this is using your tools in the most efficient and comfortable manner. Some other topics covered are: which tools you need to get started, how much the initial investment will cost, and where to get your supplies and stones.
I limit each class to 6 people, as I want to provide as much individual attention as I can. Special scheduling arrangements can be made for small groups if you want to do this as a special event for a group. Snacks, coffee, and tea are provided. Most students are able to complete two rings and two pendents in the beginning class given the time. I include stones and silver in the cost of the class, and I have premium stones for an additional cost if you would like something extra special. I have all the tools you will need, so all you need to bring is yourself!
The beginning class lasts for 5 weeks, and we meet once a week for 4 hours. Generally I schedule the classes from 6-10 pm, and I try to adjust the evening based on new students' schedules, as I know how busy you all are. I have done classes from 5-9 pm as well, and could do this if this works best for a particular group.
The fee for the beginning class is $225.00 plus a $50 materials fee. Unfortunately, because of a series of no-shows, I have had to institute a policy of requiring a non-refundable deposit of $50 to reserve your spot. When you contact me, I will provide my mailing address so you can send me a check.
My shop is in the Loveland/Fort Collins area, and I have new classes starting every 5 weeks. If you are interested, please email me at:
