Birthstones







Birthstones today have very little to do with traditionally held beliefs regarding connections between gemstones and one's birthday. Different cultures have associated different stones with particular months and/or times of the year throughout history. In the early 20th Century, Jewelers of America Chose these as official. This seems to me to be a tactic to routinely sell less popular gemstones at various times of the year by promoting their importance in peoples' minds.
