Montana Agate is found along the Yellowstone River in Montana. As with other agates, it is hard and produces a nice luster on final polish. Montana Agate tends to be a milky transluscent to transparent stone with black, brown or brownish red inclusions. Often these inclusions can be dendrites or splotches, or speckles. Sometimes lines or streaks appear as well. I like to set it in jewelry where it allows light through the stone so the inclusions stand out. It can be an interesting and attractive stone.

This stone cuts nicely, and tends not to have many fractures in it. Montana Agate is not particularly expensive.
