MINUTES OF JULY 8, 2002 MEETING
Roll Call: 27 Members Present - Capital City (8), Greensboro (2), Killearn (5), Lake Jackson (1), Madison (4), Monticello (4), Northside (2), Quincy (1). Absent: Havana, Perry, and Tallahassee.
Capital City, Killearn, Madison and Monticello qualified for an Interclub visit.
Minutes of the prior meeting were adopted as presented on the web site.
The treasurer’s report was adopted as presented.
Administrative account balance $303.36 and
Service account balance $547.77.
Reports
The Southern Scholarship Foundation has reorganized
its housing program and the Division 3 Scholarship House will become a
‘mens’ residence beginning this coming semester. The Division is planning
a cleanup on Saturday, August 10. Please attempt to help on that day.
Earl Cushing is our Division 3 representative
on the Southern Scholarship Foundation Board.
Division 3 had a 100% participation of contributions
to the International and District Foundations. Congratulations are in order.
Lt. Governor Fuller asked clubs to consider the following when preparing next year’s budgets: The Hugh O’Brien Leadership Conference for H.S. Sophomores only cost $175 per student, and the Division3, District and International Kiwanis financial obligations for 2002-2003. These were provided to Clubs with a handout. Please note that there will be a dues increase voted on at the August Kiwanis Convention.
The District Board of Directors will discuss the Fishing Village Project of Food for the Poor, Inc. as a possible project for this coming year. Lt. Governor Ben Fuller says that approximately $150 from each Kiwanis Club in Florida will make a major impact in the Jamaican Project. A workshop on the proposed project will be held at the August Convention.
Division Business
Club reports are due this week.
The Governors visit went very well. Many thanks to the Capital City Kiwanis Club for a job well done.
Membership promotion for the next two months can put Division 3 over the breakeven point for the year. Sign up new members prior to September 30 to help achieve Distinguished Club status.
Local Reports
Capital City - This month the Echo project is under way. Our club is assisting with the PACE computerization program to see if it is possible to reduce paperwork. Bob Henderson is helping inplement a pilot. We are breaking even on membership.
Greensboro - We had our Golf Tournament this month. This is our 55th anniversary of our club and several Charter Members were honored. Our 4th of July program went very well. Our fundraising bike race will be held in August.
Killearn - Our Golf Tournament was the largest ever. We are celebrating our 2oth Anniversary and have 3 charter members. We are active in our sponsorship of the aKtion Club. A Timberlane Road pickup is scheduled in August
Lake Jackson - Cyprus Play houses are for sale. A sample is on display at Espositos. We provided $600 worth of meat for the Lighthouse Children’s Home. We will be presenting a new Hixson Award within the month.
Madison - We have provided 14 mentors in our school program. A very successful clothing project was conducted at the end of the school year. A graduation party was held for seniors and parents. Key Club Scholarships were presented. The Relay for Life Race was very well received.
Monticello - Onion sale and Melon Run were both successful. We sponsored 4-H campers. Presented college scholarships, Boy Scout funding and musical instruments for schools.
Northside - This is our 3oth Anniversary year. We did a H.S. locker cleanout and sponsor a youth baseball team. We have an active mentoring program. Two members attended the Kiwanis International Convention.
Quincy - Conducted our Golf Tournament and presented Scholarships. We have a gain of 3 members.
Other Business
The District Convention is in Orlando August 23 to 25. An information packet will be sent to each club. Please try to send your three authorized delegates.
Eight Division 3 Clubs participated in the officer training. Officers who missed the training can make it up at the convention or by contacting Larry Spaulding.
Lt. Governor Ben Fuller presented the International Foundation Honor Club Award to the Killearn Kiwanis Club. Past-President Chuck Walter accepted on behalf of the Club. This award honors clubs who have at least one third of their members become Hixson Members, Heritage Society Members or Tablet of Honor status.
Lt. Governor Fuller thanked the Clubs, officers and members who made the year succesful.
Lt. Governor Elect Early Harris urged the Clubs to get their projects going and to get the funding into their Club budgets.
