MINUTES OF OCTOBER 14, 2002 MEETING
Meeting was called to order by Lt. Gov. Early Harris at 7 p.m.
Pledge led by former Lt. Gov. Ben Fuller.
Prayer by Monticello Club President, Gerald Ikner.
All clubs were represented except Havana and Perry, and all present were Kiwanians.
The Council accepted minutes for the July meeting and approved the Treasurer's report.
Lt. Gov. Early reported that Foundation Representative Earl Cushing asked that Clubs have their checks for the Foundation donations to him by December 30, 2002. Send them c/o Lake Jackson Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 108413, Tallahassee, FL 32317.
Past Lt. Gov. Ben made his own presentation of awards to Outstanding Clubs in the Division for 2001-2002, based more on club activities and less on membership growth than the state awards. He recognized the Killearn Club as the division's top club and Capital City as runnerup.
Former Lt. Gov. Ben urged support for the Fishing Village project to train and equip fishermen at a village in Jamaica. This is a sort-of worldwide project sponsored by the Florida Foundation. He asked that Division 3 clubs all submit donations ahead of any other divisio toward the $40,000 goal that amounts to about $150 per club.
District Gov. Larry Krasulak will make his official visit March 28, 2003.
Clubs reported a wide range of projects underway this year. The Killearn Club reported that 300 students applied for 80 positions in the new Key Club it is sponsoring at Chiles High School.
The annual Civic Club Luncheon for the opening of the fair will be October 31.
Former Lt. Gov. Bob Henderson asked for support for a school for at-risk girls to buy a seven-passenger van.
