Written in Latin except for one spell in Italian. The book is missing the first two folios which would identify its title and author. The compiler seems to be German. It is small 8.25" by 5.75". Contains portions of the "Liber consecracionum" and "Opus Zoal et Angelorum et spirituum eius"; a list of spirits; with a description of the forms in which they appear and the functions they perform; a manual of astral magic; a list of favorable and unfavorable days for writing magical inscriptions; and a fragment of a chemical prescription, with a gloss in German. Also contains 42 experiments: 12 illusionist colored with "magic circle"; 7 psychological colored with "sympathetic magic"; 17 divinatory colored with catoptromancy (need an assistant usually a little boy viewing images on a reflective surface). Also, gaining knowledge from a demonic tutor, creation of a "key of Pluto" which can open all locks, conjuration of the "Mirage", and misc. fragments. The index of our copy (Explanations follow):
Book of Consecrations 1 pawn to recharge, max efficacy 4

The Key of Pluto This lab text describes and gives a +5 lab bonus for the creation of this key. This simple key is made of iron and must be invested with 2 pawns of terrem vis (+4 form bonus). This lesser enchanted device possesses an Intelligo Terrem 15 effect that allows the key to open any lock, disarming any traps, therein. It has unlimited use.
CrIm(Vi) 30 Illusionary Banquet (Personal, Sun (Dawn), Room) The caster should prepare a magic circle before casting this spell. The spell summons 16 knightly figures. They may be ordered to summon their subordinates who will come and bring dishes, and make a grand banquet, with games, singing, music-making and dancing, and in general all those things that can gladden the hearts of those standing about. Splendid pages will come and prepare beautiful tables. When these are set, trumpets, harps and an untold multitude of songs will be heard. Water will be brought when ordered. Likewise, the meal. And there will be butlers and stewards serving excellently, and handsome pages, and players providing countless entertainment. And you can have a thousand types of dish brought, if it pleases you, and those who eat them will find them uncommonly delicious. When ordered, the tables will be removed. And when ordered, the entertainment will depart. Like all illusions, the food will fail to nourish. Care is given to make sure the caster does not leave the circle until the meal is finished
CrAn 35 Phantom Steed (Touch, Day, Individual) This spell may only be cast in an abandoned room. The magus touches the ground where the steed is to appear, then must exit, for if the spot is watched, the steed will not answer the call. In a stress die x 5 minutes, a bridled jet black steed appears. Its snorting and stomping herald its appearance. The steed is twice as fast as any normal horse and unafraid of its summoner. It will travel anywhere its rider demands. At the moment that its rider dismounts, the horse vanishes leaving the rider holding an empty bridal. At any point before the spells expiration, the caster may shake the bridal, causing the steed to reappear, bridal affixed.
Bridal of the Phantom Steed This lab text describes and gives a +9 lab bonus for the creation of this bridal. The bridal is made of leather, with a bit carved from horse bone (+7 form/effect bonus) requires 5 animal vis. When completed, his lesser enchanted device will posses a CrAn 45 enchantment that can be used 3 times per day and only by the enchanter himself. When he shakes the bridal in the air, a jet black steed immediately forms, bridled. This animal will accept the magus as a rider and take him where he wills. It vanishes at sunrise, sunset, or when dismounted.
CrTe 40 Conjuring the Phantom Tower (Near, Day (Dawn), Structure) "Here follows another experiment for invoking spirits so that a man can make a fine and well fortified castle appear, for for summoning countless legions of armed men, which can easily be done, and amongst other things is deemed most beautiful." In spite of the author's boasts, this spell is just like a non-ritual Conjuring the Mystic Tower with reduced duration. This complicated spell requires 10 minutes to cast as the magus inscribes a magic circle upon the ground. If cast with a corpus requisite, a dozen warrior automatons will inhabit and defend the tower. When the first rays of dawn touch the tower, it fades from existence. Those within at such a time find themselves on open ground, greatly astonished. The circle inscribed by the magus appears etched on the lowest floor of the tower. At dawn, the circle begins to fade. If the magus is present and ready and re-casts the spell immediately, the life of the tower is extended one more day. The author goes on at great length how the best use for this spell is as a practical joke to be played on nobility. He finds that most nobility are quite amiable after the magus reveals himself and his mechanations.
Ring of Life and Death This necromantic ring has two functions. If placed on the finger of a corpse, a semblance of life will return until the ring is removed. If placed on the finger of the living, the wearer will choke as if being strangled by an invisible hand. When the wearer finally falls unconscious, he will appear in all respects to be dead, but is actually only in deathlike slumber. When the ring is removed, the person awakens normally. This text provides instructions and a +7 lab total for the creation of this silver ring. It requires 6 pawns of Corpus vis to open the ring. Each of the 3 effects requires 2 more pawns. ReCo20: Awaken the Slumbering Corpse Limited in that only dead wearers of the ring are targeted, continuous effect. PeCo20: Grip of the Choking Hand Limited in that only living conscious wearers of the ring are targeted, continuous effect. Cr(Re)Co20: Eternal Slumber Provides an unconscious living wearer of the ring with basic life support while preventing movement - a most death-like appearance. |
