Announcement Card Ideas

Alpha Dog Products was a family-owned company dedicated to maximizing the JOY of dog ownership. We are avid dog lovers and have two "fur children" of our own.

We are the original creators of the "It's a Puppy" announcement cards. The idea for the cards started in 1992 when we adopted our first dog and sent baby announcements to our family and friends. It was a lot of fun and we got great responses from people who received the cards. They thought it was a cute idea, and sent cards and gifts welcoming our new "baby" (not the reason we sent the cards but a nice side benefit!). Since we couldn't find PET announcement cards, we decided to create our own.

We had so much fun sending the puppy announcements that we wanted to share the idea with others. I designed the "It's a Puppy" stork and puppy cartoon, and sold the cards over the internet for a few years. People loved the cards and thought of wonderful messages for the inside of the card such as "our home is more complete, since we added 4 more feet". It was special to share in others' joy and anticipation of their puppy's arrival, and I received many lovely letters about the terrific reaction they received when sending the cards. Some people used the cards for new puppy shower announcements. Others gave the cards as gifts to friends or new puppies with insightful messages like "remember, loud whining will get you out of the cage and into the bed". I also met some special breeders who used the cards to announce the arrival of a new litter to the anxiously awaiting families.

Life got too busy to continue selling the cards, but the years in business gave me the opportunity to talk with many people about how they celebrated their puppy's arrival. Creative ideas have included formal printed cards, photo announcements, homemade computer cards, and modified baby announcements. The dog's age never seems to matter when introducing a new member of the home to friends and family. I've seen people send cards for their 8-week old puppy or their older shelter rescue. Either way, announcement cards are a wonderful way to welcome your new canine in style.
