Mountain DNA Results
To date only men of Irish ancestry have submitted yDNA
test results. Two clear clusters have emerged that are separated from
each other by a genetic distance (GD) of 16 based on a comparison of 43
markers. This large genetic distance suggests that it is extremely
unlikely that these two Mountain clusters share a common ancestor who lived since
surnames were adopted in Ireland (ca. 1100). The close matches
within clusters means that it is likely (but not certain) that members
of a cluster share a common ancestor who lived in the last 500 years.
