Civil War trousers are designed to be worn looser and have a higher rise than today's modern trousers. The trousers SHOULD NOT be snug fitting and SHOULD NOT hang on your hips! Rather, they should be cut slightly on the baggy side with the top edge of the trousers cut approximately one to two inches ABOVE the belly button. YOU MUST be able to move freely in your trousers. Trouser leg-length should be LONG, basically covering your entire shoe, though not dragging on the ground. Trouser legs are usually left unhemmed so that you can hem them exactly the length you want. Company C's number one dress parade ceremonial trouser will be made from the Dark Richmond Gray wool that matches our shell jackets. These trousers are produced with the "Charlie Childs" Richmond Depot trouser pattern with a back draw-belt and buckle and "dog-ear" style pockets. When ordering, request the double button front for suspenders (two buttons per side of the trouser front).
During the course
of the war, when the 2nd Maryland Infantry received
uniform and clothing issues from the Quartermaster Department via
the Richmond Depot, allotments of shell jackets and trousers

bolt of wool material. Secondary, Field/Fatigue Trousers The following trousers will be worn primarily during reenactments or living history encampments. They will be utilized as field-fatigue trousers:
