About D3Soccer.net

D3Soccer.net began as a small web site under another, long-forgotten name in November 1994.  Johns Hopkins University, for which my son was playing, had reached the national tournament, and I was frustrated at the general lack of information on the web with regard to Division III soccer in general and the tournament in particular.  At the time, many (probably most, although I did not do a statistical analysis) D3 schools did not have web sites for their soccer programs.  I decided to create a web site with information about the tournament, as well as a site dedicated to JHU soccer.

This site grew in content and readership over the years, and in January 2001 I registered the name D3Soccer.net.  Several people have attempted to buy the domain name from me, but I  have refused to give it up.  I ‘retired’ from the effort briefly in 2002, but missed working on the site so much that I revived it for the 2002 tournament, and have kept it running uninterrupted since.

I fund and maintain D3Soccer.net entirely by myself, although I do have many contacts who e-mail or call me with scores and other D3 information.  The web site has never had advertising (with the exception of the required mention of the web counter provider).  I was recently approached by a former Messiah soccer player who represents a company that links advertisers to web sites, but declined to participate when I found out that the company he represents is one of the larger purveyors of spam on the internet.  For now, D3Soccer.net will remain free of advertising.

Prior to the 2000 season, I created the affiliated D3Soccer Message Board, originally dedicated to men’s Division III soccer, but later expanded by request to include a women’s soccer forum.  The message board is hosted on EZBoard.  Member contributions allow us to purchase Gold Community status, which eliminated advertising on the board.
