About the Artist

Born in 1947, in New York City, David Dilts showed artistic talent at an early age. Throughout grammar school, his teachers recognized his ability to duplicate whatever he saw, accurately drawing it on paper. He received an outstanding artist award during graduation when he was only 12 years old.

All through high school he continued to explore artistic expression and duplication of what he saw and eventually self taught himself oil painting. Stretching his own canvases, he painted many accurate replicas of Pablo Picasso paintings. He graduated from College with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, as he was drawn to mathematics and science, as well as form, placement, and the value of light. This combination has led him to the development of an entirely new art form that he utilizes today.

Throughout his professional life, David continued to paint, sculpt, draw and explore artistic expression as an avocation during his years working as an engineer. In 1996 he took professional art lessons from Scott Jackson, of Newburyport, Massachusetts. Through these lessons, he grew into oil pastels that have become his favorite medium of expression today.

His interest in mathematics, especially Chaos and String theory, has led him to the path of utilizing the "self-similarity" of structure in nature to create unique, one of a kind, oil pastels. These depict nature and its many repeating patterns of landscape on both the smallest and largest of scales. This is what he calls "Biologically Inspired Composition"TM. He states "My pallet is pastel, my surface is nature. From a distance it is chaos, close up, it is order."

David Dilts lives north of Boston in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire, with his wife, Janet.
