TERRI'S MEDICAL SPECIALTY FILE
for use with Shorthand/SpeedType

Terri's Medical Specialty File (TMSF) is a file incorporating terms from 15 medical specialities, including Laboratory/Pathology, Oncology, Radiology and OB-GYN. The file has been carefully compiled and cross-checked for use as
a reference list, for text entry, or both. Using Shorthand or SpeedType and TMSF you can quickly look up unfamiliar words and phrases - or familiar ones for that matter - and then enter them into the text at the
same time - a real time saver. There are often helpful hints and notations alongside the medical terms as well, as will be shown below.
In this screen shot from Shorthand, the letters "te" have been typed. A wealth of information is quickly available for reference or to enter into the document. As in this example, the full form of numerous acronyms (TEC) is often given. The file also contains singular and plural forms (theca, thecae), which is particularly useful for those starting out in medical transcription. For text entry - to enter "Tesio catheter" into the document, you would press F5, or "cac" and the space bar. You can also scroll through all the entries beginning with "te" by repeatedly hitting the comma.
In this example, "rd" has been typed. Again, information relevant to those letters is instantly available - and can be placed into the text, saving many keystrokes, if desired. With about 15,300 entries, many common medical expressions, acronyms and terms are immediately available, without having to switch to another program to do a search. As in the earlier example, final letters "b", "c", "d", etc. are used to differentiate between identical short forms.
Here only "it" has been typed. The example shows further typical examples from the numerous medical specialties from which the file has been compiled: AIDS, Cardiovascular,
Dermatology, Male_Reproductive, Neonatal, Nephrology, Neurology, Gastrointestinal,
Genitourinary, Laboratory_Pathology, ObGyn, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, and Radiology. As can be seen, massive keystroke savings
are easily obtainable with these entries. E.g. "it" plus F8 (3 keystrokes) would yield 27 counting the spaces, which is a gain of 900%.
Shorthand requires each short form to be unique, so there is an
alternate version of Terri's file which is identical to this version except that every entry begins with the letter "k". This is to prevent any likelihood that short forms will conflict when using multiple files
at the same time ("linked"), should you decide to use this file with your master file, or with other ABCZ files. The letter "k" was selected because it is a home row key, is seldom used otherwise, and
the resulting short forms will not conflict with other ABCZ files.
