Dale Stephen Arnold's Incredibly Simple Web Page [Ver DA-09]
I live in Bel Air Maryland where for three decades my family managed Arnold TV and Appliances.
When we decided to close the business I went to work for Digex which was bought by Intermedia which was bought by Worldcom which sold
our part to Allegiance Telecom which was bought by XO and outsourced my job to Virginia. As long
as the new regime investigated the department each time we were sold I was retained--until the new owner decided to ax
everyone based on geography. Given the telecom industry was depressed I decided to take an
educational hiatus to secure the four year degree.
So... I completed a Bachelor of Science Program at University of Maryland University Campus
adding a BS degree in Business Administration to my Associate of Arts degree in Business
Administration from Harford Community College. My UMUC GPA turned out to be 3.952-- so I list it on resumes as 3.95 with a note that it was 4.0 in business related classes. The degree was awarded Magna Cum Laude.
Of course no one seemed impressed with the degree and the economy decided to spiral down even more--so I now work for my Brother's Law Firm doing IT across the ages and selected Paralegal work. We process a lot of Workers' Compensation, Accident and Bankruptcy cases and it is amassing how many tools from my project management experience translate into helping push cases along.
I am managing the Baltimore Science Fiction Society Website and sending out news reports to the
info@balticon email list which features Maryland local SF news. To sign up for news alerts from
the info-list visit http://www.bsfs.org/bsfslist.htm. I am on the BSFS Board of Directors as a member at large as of September 2007 and continue to work on the BSFS Building as time allows..
I used to be very active in the Baltimore Chapter of the National Space Society, but the fire
of volunteering has faded a bit. I am still active in the chapter of course, but the number
of projects we undertake are reduced from our glory days.
I have constructed websites for two attorneys in Maryland as a sideline. One of them being a site for my brother Don, but another liked Don's website so much he asked for me to create one for him as well. I like simple, elegant, functional websites and this appeals to some folks so I am glad to help.
I have two brothers, one an attorney and the other a Naval officer, and two excellent sister-in-laws. (Obviously one for each brother) I have five nieces and three nephews
ranging in age from 1 to 27 years old.
I read a lot of science fiction literature. Some people waste their time on booze or drugs, I just read far too much.
Of course on the bright side no one reads too much and then gets behind a wheel and crashes into people, so it could be
worse. I always find it ammusing when people realize I never use alcohol or anything else of that nature.
Some folks find living stone cold sober 24x7 inconcievable, but why in the world would I spend money to make myself less capable of doing simple tasks in a ever changing world?
Besides reading so much developed skills allowing me to soak up technical manuals with astonishing efficiency.
I guess I should note somewhere that I was awarded the 2008 Volker/McChesney Award for service to the science fiction fan community. Thanks to the Farpoint Committee for noticing and appreciating my efforts.
