Toad in the holeSunday
Today we decided to go to the Lake District, which is divided up into little towns. We chose the town of Windermere to start. Light rain and overcast skies, Dan was feeling a cold coming on but, despite that, we ventured to the Lakes. The lil' town of Windermere was surrounded by the lakes, mountains and meadows. Any direction you looked was nothing but stunning scenery. The bakeries and chocolate candy stores were abundant. Lots of shops to browse and just so much to see, and we ate "Fish & Chips" out of paper while standing in the rain (typically British!). Grasmere was next. We went to Dora's field and walked around the town. We stopped in the Badger Pub and enjoyed a hot cup of tea to ward of the dampness. We headed back to Manchester for a dinner at the Golden Dragon with Dan's family (no, it’s not a chinese restaurant). It had a huge menu of true english entrees. I selected "toad in a hole", which is sausages baked into a "Yorkshire Pudding" (a traditional northern english food, often served with roast beef on a Sunday, made of an egg batter, similar to crepes). Delicious! Just another fantastic day.
