Provocative Soul: My First Book of Pictures

4.18x6.88 inches, 37 pages, no ISBN, wirebound, $5.00

These photographs were taken en route I-40. I traveled in my 1982 Honda Prelude
from Los Angeles, CA, to Philadelphia, PA in one week. I recorded my travels with
images taken in cheap motel rooms, gas station bathrooms, the Canyon, and the car.

Introduction

Across my country and across my mind
Are places I neither frequent nor try to find
Earth, you are a maze of streets, houses, and people
While inside me: a knife, bible, cross, steeple
All goodness and badness are laid out as a map
That is torn, crinkled and misused in my lap
A woman on the run, a woman meek but dangerous
Innocent but stained, placid but adventurous
Come country for my pictures, come and enjoy my world
This delightful being has traversed, this energy, this girl
Oh family need not question and lover mustn’t quarrel
The art I share is all I know of daisy, tree and laurel—
It is a globe of beauty and for this I live,
Original gifts of the soul I give.
