======================================================================= DEPECHE MODE SPECIAL REMIXES GUIDE (Last Updated 01/06/00) ======================================================================= This section contains a brief narrative on some of the most often copied mixes. What they are, why they seem to be on every boot, and are they any good? I don't have an order to this yet, so it's kinda going to be in random order for now. ======================================================================= ONLY WHEN I LOSE MYSELF - JOSH ABRAHAM REMIX 4:27 ONLY WHEN I LOSE MYSELF - JOSH ABRAHAM REMIX EDIT 3:55 ======================================================================= These are official DJ-only mixes; ones that were released to be played on the radio, but not to the general public. This mix is not to different from the original, though the beat is reorganized to give the song a harder feel. There's not too much that really sticks out for me to describe, but let me say that the mix is one of the best, save for the Gus Gus mixes, of course! It is definitely well worth whatever CD you buy to get it. PS - I haven't heard the Remix Edit. It's on a few CD's, but I suspect it's just a cut-down version of the first one. ======================================================================= WORLD IN MY EYES - MAYHEM MODE MIX 4:54 ======================================================================= Supposedly, this was to be an official mix but was decided against. Very good mix, different than the others (or at least as unique as the others are). ======================================================================= VIOLENCE 4:38 I FEEL NO GUILT 4:54 ======================================================================= These two appear on numerous CD's, claiming to be unreleased demos. Though some demos do exists, majority opinion/knowledge (including The BRAT) says that these are not Depeche Mode. They are rumoured to be a band called Red Flag, but I don't know if this is true. ======================================================================= I LIKE IT (LIVE) 2:15 TELEVISION SET (LIVE) 3:16 REASON MAN (LIVE) ?:?? TOMORROW'S DANCE (LIVE) ?:?? ======================================================================= These are early tracks, from before DM was really DM (I guess they were Composition of Sound at this point). On their first tour as DM, they only had one album to draw concert material from, and they played a few of these songs occasionally. ======================================================================= CLICHE - DEMO (also called UNTIL YOU SAW THE SEA) 5:38 ======================================================================= This was a demo of a song that could have appeared on Construction Time Again. It is DM, and the lyrics are mostly made up of cliche's, said in a way that mocks the whole idea of the cliche' (that's how I interpret it). One line is "until you sew the seeds," which some people have mistranslated into "until you saw the sea." ======================================================================= MONGHI - DEMO ======================================================================= This is supposed to be a Violator-era demo that never got turned into a song. It's an instrumental piece, much like Memphisto or Stjarna, and may have been scrapped because Violator already had too many instrumental B-Sides. ======================================================================= IT'S NO GOOD CLUB 69 FUNK VOCAL MIX 8:52 IT'S NO GOOD CLUB 69 FUTURE MIX 8:05 IT'S NO GOOD CLUB 69 FUTURE DUB 7:06 IT'S NO GOOD CLUB 69 FUNK DUB 5:07 ======================================================================= It is said that these mixes were originally intended to be the official extended mixes for ING, but that the producers thought they were too "club-like." So they scrapped them and went with the mixes you now have on the official CD's. Most bootleggers usually take one of these for their CD and simply call it the "Club 69 Mix." I know at least one of these can be found on one of Club 69's albums, which are collections of different artists' songs that they have remixed. These are different, but similar to the Brian Transeau Mixes. ======================================================================= IT'S NO GOOD BT FUTURE HOUSE MIX 7:54 IT'S NO GOOD BT TRANCE VOCAL MIX 9:42 IT'S NO GOOD BT TRANCE DUB MIX 8:54 ======================================================================= Crafted by Brian Transeau, it is said that these mixes were originally intended to be the official extended mixes for ING, but that the producers thought they were too "club-like." So they scrapped them and went with the mixes you now have on the official CD's. These are different, but similar to the Club 69 Mixes. ======================================================================= I LOVE YOU LOVE ME LOVE 2:38 DOWN IN THE BOONDOCKS 2:47 ======================================================================= These are 2 demos done by Martin Gore. The story goes that they were tracks recorded for a friend for his/her birthday. I have also heard that Boondocks was a scrapped demo for Counterfeit EP. ======================================================================= COMING BACK TO YOU 3:30 ======================================================================= This was Martin Gore's track for a tribute album to Leonard Cohen. It is genuine Martin. I'm not sure if he performed the music as well, but it sounds like his style. Not a bad track, but a little depressing, and there are a few factory references in there, making it no wonder he chose this track to cover. ======================================================================= SONG FOR EUROPE 4:41 ======================================================================= This was Dave Gahan's track for a tribute album to Roxy Music. The voice is his, but someone else performed the music. Hence the very non-DM, very-Dave feel. It is an excellent song, and a good chance to hear Dave do something a little different.
