Students are paying to learn, so the teacher should
be trying to teach something about chess.
Remind the student what they are doing right,
because through proper instruction they will surely know what they are
doing wrong (positive reinforcement).
Forego false praise, for letting the student think they
are doing better than they are just to make them feel good does more harm
than good.
Everyone is different – some players want to know what
they are doing wrong so they can get better, but others need a "gentle
touch." Also, some players love to play and study; others just want to
go along at a slow and fun pace…
