CHARITABLE DONATIONS PAGE
The Dan Heisman Chess Support Fund
Helping Good Kids do Good Things
Dr. John F. Bayley has been leading the way to
establish chess as a worthy scholarship activity in the Philadelphia area. As
a retired pediatrician, John feels strongly that chess is good for people of
all ages, and promoting scholastic chess is "Helping good kids do good
things."
In response to Dr. Bayley's initiative, in May 2005 I donated funding through the Philadelphia Foundation to establish a tax-deductible fund called the Dan Heisman Chess Support Fund. The fund was established to provide support to worthy chess players who do well in local scholastic events like the Greater Philadelphia Junior Invitational Championship (Dr. Bayley annually raises $2,000 as a prize fund; take this link to see the letter to the first scholarship winner!) and the Greater Philadelphia Scholastic Chess Championship. There is a Scholarship Advisory Committee via the PA State Chess Federation to decide how much funding will be provided to each event. Each year on June 1 the PSCF receives their annual support.
Like all Philadelphia Foundation Funds, anyone can make tax-deductible donations to the fund. Unless specially requested, all donations go for endowments (investment whose interest pays for future years).
All donations are tax-deductible. You will receive a confirmation letter for your taxes from The Philadelphia Foundation.

The Holly Heisman Memorial Fund
My first wife, Holly, died of breast
cancer in 1994.
We have established a fund through the Philadelphia Foundation in her name,
the Holly Heisman Memorial Fund
(if taking link, look under "H"). The fund was established in
1995 to provide funds for services
to
benefit women in need, especially battered women, women with breast cancer, or runaway teenagers.
Since 1999, it has awarded grants to organizations including: The Child Abuse Prevention
Effort, Delaware County Women Against Rape, Living Beyond Breast Cancer, and The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County.
Please consider donating to this worthy cause!

Each year we have a FREE entry, rated fundraising tournament with lots of donated prizes! So far this event has raised about $10,000. Moreover, since 2007 Howard Stern has donated a trip to his show to further raise money for the cause. Thanks!!
