I have 2 'DMD' pinball machines made around 1991, but wanted
to get an earlier game. I bought a 1978 Gottlieb Sinbad game. This machine has
a chime unit for sound, like the older 'EM' games. It also has 10 drop targets,
some rollover stars and a spinner. I like all those features, and it's a nice
looking game as well.
There were 12,000 'SS' versions made and nearly 1,000 'EM', so
there should be plenty of spare parts out there. There are some web sites with
really good troubleshooting information as well. If all else fails, several
companies make replacement boards for the game that use newer components for
greater reliability.

Notice the cabinet colors. This cabinet should be orange, but upon getting
the game home I can see that someone has used a brush to paint over the
original artwork with different colors. I don't know if this is due to
damage to the original art, or if someone just didn't like orange..
I'm no expert on playfields, but I think this one looks pretty
good for a game made in 1978. It does have some issues, but playfield touchups
are currently beyond my ability. Once I clean the playfield and wax it,
I'll be happy with the asthetics. I just hope it plays well!.
There's quite a bit of information out there on repairing
Gottlieb System 1 game boards. There are also 2 or 3 companies that make
modern replacement boards. The topmost board is the MPU, the lower left
board is the power supply board and the rightmost board is the driver board..
Here's a picture of the game taken at 10:00 at night the day
I got it home. I've just attached the legs and head, but haven't opened
it up and connected any wires yet. I was told it works, but has some intermittent
booting issues as well as some problems with lights. With any luck these
problems are simply due to corroded connector pins and maybe a bad transistor
or two.
