1: The Beginning
Well, I found another converted Tempest. This one was turned into a Toki game made by Fabtek.
I gave away most of my duplicate parts, so I have been using this cabinet for MAME. Now that I have sold my first Tempest, I'm restoring this one.

Toki by Fabtek? Gee, looks just like a Tempest! I don't know what that thing on top is, I'm guessing the seller is using the space as storage. Note the lovely gray paint job on the sides. Do I dare hope that there's still Tempest art under that? |

I can see that it's missing the wood guides that hold the Tempest PCB in place, and the Tempest power supply is gone. The back of the machine has also been given a gray paint job. |
I've come across three converted Tempest cabinets in my area. When the troublesome vector monitors went out, a lot of arcade operators converted the cabinets to other games.
