The
lower left foot has ripped out of it's original hole, and been replaced.
Other than that the bottom looks good. |
 |
Ouch!
Gray paint over the Tempest side art, and some fair sized scrapes
down to bare wood.
|
 |
Control
panel with several extra holes for new controls. The original
Tempest monitor glass is gone, replaced with tinted plexi. The
bezel is simply a piece of black paper with a hole cut in it the
size of the monitor.
|
 |
Here it is in all its glory, after removing the marquee and a
little cleaning.
The
Tempest marquee is completely gone. A piece of plexi with art
behind it was screwed to the cabinet.
The
raster monitor is in pretty good shape. There's some lite burn-in
on the bottom, but you can barely see it through the plexi.
|
 |
This
makes the condition of the side art hurt even more. If you look
at the bits of color showing through the gray you can see that
this is one of the earlier cabinets with the black stripe that
went all the way out to the edge of the cabinet.
So
far that type of side art is not being reproduced, just the more
common type with the white border.

 |
Just
a shot of the back to show that the gray paint covers everything.
|
 |
Pretty
much all of the edges of the cabinet look like this. I think it's
water damage, although it seems to be limited to the edges. |
 |
Another
shot of some edge damage.
The
black parts of Tempest cabinets are actually vinyl, not paint.
It seems to me that should give them some protection, but if water
got under the T-molding you would see this kind of effect.
|
Well, I guess the first converted Tempest I got was an example of
the best way to convert a classic - and this one is an example of
the worst. There is pretty much nothing left of the original Tempest
other than the cabinet itself. Even if I could get the gray paint
off the side art, I think it would be in too rough shape to save.
