Tempest 2 -
Glutton for Punishment?

Page 6: Finished!

January 10th, 2006 was the day I powered up the cabinet for the first time! blah.

The repro side art is really nice!

Here she is, up and running!

The upper right side of the marquee is missing a chunk, and the control panel overlay could stand to be replaced also. I'll worry about those at a later time.

From the back you can see the bottom of the cab is still gray. The back door is also gray, as well as the very top of the cabinet. I've decided to leave it that way, because you can't see it. If I ever run out of other projects, I may take care of it.

If you really know your Tempest cabs, you'll see that I'm missing the small "L" bracket that mounts to the lower corner of the monitor and the shelf. The monitor is held in with four bolts, so I don't think it's going anywhere without this extra support.

Well, I was adjusting the picture on the monitor and it went blank. I took it out and was on the doorstep of a local tech when my arm barely brushed the neckboard. I heard a "PSSSSHHHHH" sound - I broke the neck and lost the vaccuum.

In other words, the tube is toast. It turns out that the reason the monitor stopped working was that something blew on the High Voltage board.

I ordered a new tube, and it took less than 10 days to arrive. The price was $145 shipped. I have now officially busted my budget, oh well.

Next step is to swap in the new tube. I'll be taking it back to the same tech, but you can be that I'll be a LOT more careful this time!

The new tube has been swapped in, and high voltage repaired. She's back up and running!
