Cemetery records can identify a date of death, other family members, even a cause of death. Older records from most cemeteries consist of “lot cards” – cards which hold information about anyone buried in that plot. These lot cards sometimes contain surprises, such as family members buried in the plot whose names do not appear on the gravestone. Lot cards often reveal who purchased the plot, and can be a good source of information about your family tree.
