Object: The California Nebula (NGC 1499)

Location: ASLC DSO Site near Upham, NM
Telescope: TeleVue 85 @ f/5.6 on a G11 mount
Guiding: Meade DSI-C using a 10" SCT and PHD software
Camera: Modified Canon 350XT
Exposure: 21 x 4min, ISO 800, Temp 45 degrees F
Processing: RAW conversion. registration and stacking (Sigma Clip Avg) in ImagesPlus. Levels, curves, medium unsharp mask, and gradient removal in PS.
Comments: This immense cloud of ionized hydrogen which bears a resemblance to the state of California, is located some 1500 light-years away in the constellation of Perseus.  It spans about 100 light-years in the long axis and covers about 2 and a half degrees from our perspective.
