Object: M4 region of Scorpius
Date: 5/22/04
Location: Texas Star Party - Ft. Davis, TX
Telescope: TeleVue 85mm refractor (f/5.6) piggyback on a Meade 10" LX200
Guiding: 208XT
Camera: Canon Digital Rebel (300D) @ Prime Focus
Exposure: 16x1min, ISO-800, 55-60 degrees
Processing: Raw images converted to 16bit TIFF and stacked (min/max excluded average) in ImagesPlus. I did not use dark frames for this image.  Levels and curves (final color balance) were adjusted in Photoshop.
Comments: This is the central region of the constellation Scorpius with the red super-giant star Antares glowing brightly (left center) and the beautiful globular cluster M4 to the right.  Just above and right of Antares is a much dimmer (magnitude 9) globular NGC 6144.   Farther up and left is the bright blue star Sigma Scorpii or Alniyat, which is the next constellation star moving up toward the head of the scorpion.
