The big problem with soccer is the penalty-kick shootout after a tie game + 5 min. overtime. It is a very unsatisfying way to decide a game! Here's a better one:
If a game ends in a tie, and a single-overtime maintains the tie, throw a second ball into the field of play. Play could start with each goalie controlling a ball. At this point, the overtime is sudden-death; the first goal to be scored decides the game outcome.
Now that would be entertaining to watch! And, if by some odd chance the game is still tied after a 5-minute overtime, start another one with a 3rd ball added.
