We have a small summer place up in the Lakes region... animals all over the place. We've seen deer, skunks (of course), the usual squirrels and chipmunks, we have three beavers in the lake and a muskrat along the shore... and there's a black bear that roams the area sometimes. Tons of birds, including a pair of nesting loons. All sorts of other birds inhabit the area, including 5 great blue herons, and an osprey that makes the occasional visit, several kingfishers, coromorants, mergansers, and of course, ducks. We also get the occasional bit of wildlife at home.

Chipmunk
One of several that inhabit the area... in our woodpile, under the deck, in the rock wall... we even had one make a nest inside the grill one year. This one is checking out the sights and catching some rays.

Ducks
Plenty of ducks in the area... we had up to 13 this year (two different families). They love sleeping in the sun on our big rock.

Normally that area of land is 6 feet under water.

A spotted salamander, about 6 inches long. (May 3rd, 2009)

It was discovered when we cleaned our pond; it scampered into the woods.
