37 engine with carbs small.jpg (143660 bytes)

Stock engine before upgrades to ignition and 12-volt conversion (Eat your heart you purists!).   This photos shows the "original" spark plug wires.

Slight crack in the head necessitated a complete top end overhaul with NOS guides and valves.  Stovebolt Engine Company provided the Offenhauser water-heated manifold and 32mm/36mm progressive linkage Holley-Weber carbs.  Fenton cast-iron headers shown in this photo (they don't fit with the Offenhauser manifold very well).

This photo clearly shows the "infamous" splash lubrication system that Chevrolet used for so many years on the '216' before going to the pressure-fed system on the '235'.  It's the copper fitting between the rockers in the middle of the picture.  Oil came up from the pump, went left and right through the rocker shaft and what was left over splashed out the overflow hole in the loopback pipe.  Just don't rev beyond 4,000 rpm and your engine will last.
