i've dealt my last round of cards at the table
i've played the last game of chance
with the wheels of fortune
cash me in i'm leaving
on a greyhound this evening
let that bus keep on jugging
carry me back to the west coast
i'm bound to keep on moving
splashing wheels in the pouring rain
keeping my head from going insane
she's so fine she's back on my mind
she's so fine she's back on my mind
and i love it that body n soul touch
from the one i love
i had a full house in my hand and i was winning
then they asked me
to gamble your heart without a limit
i could never take that chance
because the stakes were just to high
with your love i'm the winner
splashing wheels in the pouring rain
keeping my head from going insane
she's so fine she's back on my mind
she's so fine she's back on my mind
and i love it that body n soul touch
from the one i love
oh in a daydream i'm back in your arms honey
now i'm a waking,
see the neon signs in the pouring rain
seem to be flashing out your name
she's so fine she's back on my mind
she's so fine she's back on my mind
and i love it that body n soul touch
from the one i love.. yeah it means so very much
when you know the story is true
she's so fine she's back on my mind
i've got to get home to feel that touch
tell the people that she means so much

David Humphrey:  guitars, vocals & overdubs
Tom Hooker:  bass guitar
Brian Hewitt:  drums

What I remember:
The song of rock and roll. I always wished I could play lead guitar and sing. In my dreams, I always could. Brian, "Hook" and I recorded the basic tracks over and over again, trying to get it better. I must have tried fifty takes to sing the lead vocals.  As with all of my songs, I thought the song would have been much better if I could have gotten someone else to sing the lead vocal.

I kept a letter from Mark Goodman at Chrysalis Records (January 15, 1976) telling me I was close to having a powerful song. He explained in lengthy detail how to rewrite the lyrics to make the song more....compelling. Man I tried rewriting, but the original lyrics worked much better. But I appreciated the letter and the encouragement.
