you say you've given up, so you think you're really through
you've left it up to someone else to feel the way you do
you thought you held the sun babe, thought it's shine was true
but when you felt it burn you heart
you saw a bed lamp over used
don't give up, i'm here to change your mind
don't let love pass you by, i need to feel your touch
don't let love pass you by, i need you very much
don't let love pass you by
life is filled with downers and the fools that bring you down
they tear apart your life and push you to the ground
we're always afraid of what the people think
afraid of walking through the door no matter how big the dream
so come on up, life's greener on the other side

so while you're searching for your freedom
all the things you want to find are in a state of mind
and it's bound to take some time, take up mine
not enough words to say all i want to say
but written down inside my heart
there's love on each and every page
never enough of loving i think you know it's true
and if i had just one choice i'd be the one you knew
so come on up, it's written in the book

don't let love pass you by, life's greener on the other side
don't let love pass you by, i need to feel your touch
don't let love pass you by, i'm here to change your mind
don't let love pass you by, i need you very much
don't let love pass you by

(Muscle Shoals, Alabama - circa 1975)

David Humphrey:  guitar, vocals & overdubs
Steve Herbert:  drums & percussion
Mike Lawley:  lead guitar
"Butch" Lonnie Ledford:  bass guitar
Max Lee:  Fender Rhodes piano

What I remember:
Recorded in Broadway Sound Studio's Muscle Shoals, Alabama July 1975. Dave Johnson liked my material enough to finance a recording of three of my songs over two days. At the time 2 inch tape and 16 tracks were the recording "state of the art". In the studio mix no reverb or tape echo was used. My vocals rivaled tom cats on steroids. Even though I appreciated this opportunity to record in the studio the songs just didn't work. This song was the best of the sessions. In Chattanooga I added the Korg piano and vox background vocals to the original studio mix.
