hey you with the big o smile
why don't you stop and pick me up
yes you with the big o grin
why don't you share some of your luck
i've been down so long
and i need someone just to sing my song

i'm going ... i'm kind of kooky
i'm singing ... ain't love spooky
gee whiz you really stopped
for some reason you really care
i can see you understand
you've been down this road before
i've been down so long
and the love i need has left and gone

well you know enough is enough
when you're down it's really hard to get up
sadness grows like a seed in the rain
time is the water it's food for the pain
memories are the lock
that keep me stuck to this chain
hey you with the big o smile
now you can see i'm smiling to
gee whiz you changed my life
i've got a brand new attitude
that if i love someone
well the chances are they'll love me to

David Humphrey:  guitars, vocals & overdubs
Roger Stephenson:  bass guitar

What I remember:  This song was originally written and recorded in early 1974. The song was my simplistic view of music from the middle 1960's. "Sadness grows like a seed in the rain" along with a few chords and some harmony became a soundtrack for the curious. The song created a lot of interest and opened a few doors. I just wanted to be a songwriter not a recording artist. I kept hoping for someone to hear the song in it's full potential.

I recorded a 12 string guitar and two vocals. Roger overdubbed the bass guitar. These 4 tracks were mixed to a stereo image. Two more tracks of vocals were tracks were added and a final mix to stereo. I recorded several versions of this song including a cut in Muscle Shoals, AL at Broadway Studio's but this one had the best feel.
