Spindles

Our spindles are made from locally available hardwoods and other woods I have available, turned on a lathe. Spindle whorls are turned from the top and bottom for balance and spinning speed.

General dimensions:
Whorls: approx. 2-3/4" across
Shafts: 9 to 9-1/2" long
Weight: Varies depending on woods used for whorl and shaft. Most are 1.2 to 1.5 oz, but have run from 0.9 to 1.8 oz. If you are looking for something very light or on the heavier side, let us know. We'll be glad to make suggestions.

Our spindles are sold without notches, and the hooks are set upright or with a slight lean (to the left if the hook opening is facing toward you). The hooks are very strong, so if you'd like one tweaked to your preference, please ask.

Our regular spindle shafts are made from birch. Shafts may also be made from oak, cherry, or walnut. Spindles with other shafts (ex: purpleheart or bird's eye maple) may cost slightly more.
