Wilma - Dorn - Flood - Fisk

Family History

My ancestors witnessed the sweep of American History from the Mayflower and early New England to the migration of the Huguenots, the founding of Virginia and the earliest probes of settlers into Kentucky, the American Revolution, Loyalists, slavery, The War of 1812, the Indian Wars, the Civil War, and the Westward Movement.

The ancestors of Edmund Flood descend from William the Conqueror and the Scottish and French royal houses. Most of the research comes from the noted genealogist Walter Goodwin Davis, so I consider it reliable.

The four surnames are Polish (see a map), Irish and English in origin, and there are Germans, French and Welsh here as well.

I have also included a short biography and some images relating to the life of my late father Francis Richard "Dick" Wilma

This family history was compiled from primary and published sources as indicated in the end notes. Feel free to contact me with questions or corrections.

Although my grandfathers did not serve in the Civil War, several uncles did, including:

There are also some interesting stories about ancestors and relatives in other conflicts (some are illustrated):

At present, I am stuck on several ancestors and I would be grateful for any more information

William Abercrombie from Clermont County, Ohio and Boone County, Kentucky ca. 1810, killed at Seige of Ft. Meigs in 1813.

David Morgan from Pittsylvania County, Franklin County or Patrick County, Virginia ca. 1799. Murdered in Kentucky in 1813. Through the good offices of fellow researcher Karen Salisbury in Virginia, we have discovered the identity of the wife of David's son William Morgan. She is Susan Spurlock, daughter of John Spurlock and Frances Turman. Click here for more details

Elizabeth Saunders Saxton from Nova Scotia and Port Burwell, Elgin County, Ontario.

The Potratz Family from Winona, Minnesota ca. 1900.

William Lownsberry from Connecticut or Massachusetts ca. 1776 who moved to Upper Canada.

James Flood from Falmouth (now Portland), Maine ca. 1750.

If you would like to know more about any of this information, email me . I can provide an electronic or hard copy report with endnotes and bibliography.
