The Drawers

 


 

 

There are a total of eleven drawers that need to be built for both pieces of furniture. The drawer fronts are walnut and the sides and backs are poplar. Making the drawers required many more steps than are pictured here. I captured most of the highlights in the following photos. I'm also including several photos of the moldings I installed.

Im96.jpg (28712 bytes) All the poplar boards needed for the sides and backs waiting to be cut and planed to 1/2 inch thickness.
Im100.jpg (29786 bytes) All the drawer parts cut to finished size and thickness ready for milling the rabbets, dadoes, and dovetails.
Im102.jpg (31421 bytes) Cutting the tails for the dovetail joints in the drawer sides.
Im105.jpg (26829 bytes) Drawer fronts and sides ready for the next process at the router table where a groove will be cut that will receive the 1/4 inch drawer bottom.

Im110.jpg (37522 bytes) Drawers completed, the next step was to install the various moldings. Here the base molding and middle transition molding has been installed.
Im112.jpg (20512 bytes) The two part cornice molding installed on the upper chest. The grain on some of the bottom pieces is highly figured and looks really cool.
