Classic Curved Feet

 


 

 

This page shows some of the processes involved in making and shaping the curved feet for this project. You can also get a look at what the original chest on chest looks like built in cherry.

Lumber39.jpg (213356 bytes) 4/4 and 8/4 walnut boards.
Lumber38.jpg (19406 bytes) 5/4 rough walnut for moldings are jointed on face and edges, ready for the thickness planer.
Feet1.jpg (16577 bytes) There are a total of 12 individual feet to make for both chests. 8 of them will be miter cut to form the front feet for the two lower chests. This shows the feet blanks in the first "rough out" stage.
Feet3.jpg (29316 bytes) Next step - cutting out the shape on the bandsaw.
Feet2.jpg (22710 bytes) Bandsawn feet, blanks, and the template used for the foot profile.
Feet6.jpg (25631 bytes) Using the oscillating spindle sander to smooth the curves and remove the blade marks.
Feet7.jpg (16004 bytes) Curves and contours sanded and ready for the ends to be mitered.
Feet8.jpg (25559 bytes) Mitered and glued. The two feet are reinforced on the inside corners using walnut blocks which are glued and screwed.
