Antique Cherry Tall Clock
Before Shots
This is pretty much what things looked like when I
got the clock. The head unit was in the box, along with many other parts.
However, several parts were missing or damaged so badly that new ones had to be
fabricated. The door was missing some wood on the edge just below the door knob.
In an effort to open the door, someone jury-rigged a bottle top and bolt to
replace the original pull. Through the years, the bolt hole enlarged and
distorted, making invisible repair impossible. The decision was made to make a
new door from quilted cherry.
These are all parts that were in the box that came with the clock case. The upper door frame was in pieces and in need of repair. The scrolled pediment for the top of the clock was missing a piece of the scroll on the right side and a new one had to be fabricated. One of the three finials was missing and had to be turned and the back for the top unit was split.
This shot of the base shows how bad to finish looked.
The original finish was shellac, which had "alligatored" in places.
