After stripping, the wood has a pale film that blocks the wood's grain and color. The old shellac was easy to remove.

    As bad as this looks, a little sanding and some finish, and this old cherry will look outstanding! The front piece of cove waist molding here on the base was really banged up. It was going to take some real effort to repair this to look good again.
