Red Oak Dresser and Bookcase

Finished Project

This project was finished using only a clear topcoat polyurethane finish. No stain was used. The customer wanted a satin finish. I've found by experience that I get a better satin finish if I start with a clear gloss as my first coat. After this is dry, I sand the surface with 600 grit paper and apply a second coat using the satin polyurethane. If a third coat is needed, I repeat the second coat procedure. This project has two coats on all the exterior surfaces except the top. I gave the top three coats since this is the surface likely to see more abuse.

The bookcase unit sits freely on top of the bottom unit. I used some green felt self sticking pads to help prevent scratching the dresser top. The two middle shelves are adjustable.

This is an ideal piece of furniture for a child's room. The six drawers have plenty of room for storing clothes and the bookcase unit adds some nice space for storing books and collectibles.
