This is an antique oak wardrobe that I completed at the end of 2003 for a customer. He had been looking for one about
this size for a while to add to the Antique
Oak Dresser I refinished for him earlier.
He wanted me to replace
the old door panels with new panels, repair some minor problems, and
give the wardrobe a general "going-over".
Since the finish was in
good shape, refinishing was not necessary. It just needed to be cleaned
and polished to bring back the shine.
There were some parts that
needed mending, and required only simple repairs. While looking over the
various pieces of this wardrobe, after getting them all unloaded and
into my shop, it became apparent that some of the original parts were
missing. A little detective work revealed there was once a center
divider and two smaller shelves that were not present. He
also wanted a hanger rod added for storing clothing on hangers.
I recommended making the
new door panels from the same type of wood used on the veneered drawer
fronts of his oak dresser. This would help in making the wardrobe match
the look of the dresser. Another idea to help with this was to replace
the wooden drawer pulls with the same brass pulls used on the dresser. I
also recommended adding these to the two doors, since there were no
pulls to grasp to open them.
With all the details of
the work to be done agreed upon, I began my work on the wardrobe.

A Note For Those With Dial-up Connections - Although I kept the images in this series of pages as compact as possible, I felt it would be an injustice to this fine piece of furniture to use smaller shots. Unlike my other pages, there are no thumbnails that link to larger images. Each page, therefore, averages about three images similar in size to the one seen on this page. *Page loading times may be a little slower using a dial-up connection* |
