Stripping and Sanding

To avoid the chance of the top splitting again, I chose to attach it this time with screws from the underside through slotted holes I drilled in the case frame. Next, the washstand was stripped of the remaining old finish and allowed to dry. I filled any remaining holes and sanded the entire piece. After that I applied 3 coats of a Danish oil, working the final coat in with 600 grit wet / dry sandpaper. Once this was done, I applied two coats of a paste wax and buffed it out. I installed the new brass drawer hardware that was a reproduction of the original.
