GIM Reference Manual

GIM is a genealogical information manager which provides all of the basic features of traditional genealogical database managers, plus many new features not available from any other product. GIM is fast and powerful, yet intuitive and easy to learn.

GIM is a genealogical information manager which provides of the basic features of traditional genealogical database managers, such as full GEDCOM compatibility, and pedigree chart and family group record forms. It also adds many new features which are not available from any other product, including:

an innovative method of grouping family history data into "folders", each containing as many as 2,000,000,000 persons and 2,000,000,000 families
an intuitive, visual method for navigating among persons and families in each folder
full compatibility with Ancestral File™, Temple-Ready™, and other FamilySearch™ products
full support of LDS temple ordinances
source and research notes for every vital statistic and for each person and family
a sophisticated database querying capability, allowing you to search for virtually any family history event or statistic imaginable
the ability to merge new information into existing genealogical data, and the ability to split subsets of existing information into smaller datasets
full utilization of available computer resources, including support for EMS memory if present. (EMS is not required.)

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

Minimally, GIM requires a DOS machine, a hard disk and at least 512KB RAM.
GIM's performance is optimized if more RAM is available; EMS memory is recommended.
A color monitor is not required, but is recommended.
A mouse is not required, but is supported if available.
GIM provides support for most, if not all, printers.
