what if i have health insurance?
If you have health insurance, contact them.  Ask to speak to someone who can help you with a "Behavioral Health" concern and what services are covered.  Explain that you need some help in dealing with a mental health situation concerning yourself or a covered family member. (There is usually a toll-free number on your card to dial the Behavioral Health department directly) They can provide referrals to services covered by your insurance including behavior health specialists, hospital, and on the spot assessments if you are in crisis.) These services are multi-lingual.

State of California Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Employee Assistance Program-EAP

State of California employees and eligible dependents have access to a statewide Employee Assistance Program. The State of California provides EAP as part of its commitment to employee health and well being. At no charge to you, EAP provides a support and information during difficult times, as well as consultation on day-to-day concerns. Through EAP, you can receive assistance for:

  • Alcohol Abuse
  • Drug Abuse
  • Marital and Family Issues

The State's EAP vendor is Managed Health Network, MHN, a California-based company that's been providing EAP services nationwide since 1974 and behavior health services since 1987. A small number of State agencies do not participate in the EAP master contract. Instead, they provide internal EAP services. Please check with your agency's EAP Coordinator to determine if your agency has an internal EAP.
