Click to View   Over the past decade I have had the honor of designing sets for both the Eugene Ballet and Eugene Opera companies. My relationship with these two companies began in 1996 with a production of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado, and has grown to include set designs for The Nutcracker, H.M.S. Pinafore, and the opera Hansel & Gretel. We have most recently debuted Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance In winter of 2006 we celebrated New Year's Eve with the Eugene Opera's production of Pirates of Penzance. Like many Eugene productions the challenges was to create more with less. For this project we created a stage-within-a-stage where all scene changes happened within the confines of the much smaller proscenium. Pinafore In spring of 2004 I had the opportunity to design the sets for the Eugene Opera's production of Gilbert & Sullivan's HMS Pinafore.     For this production I started my design in the computer. I built a miniature version of the Hult Center for Performing Arts in the computer and began the concepts for the set in 3D. Working in scale I was able to transfer the 3D elevations directing onto paper and being my production drawings confident that all the pieces would work together when assembled. One of the nice benifits to creating these sets has been their rent-ability. Since these original productions many of my sets have live extended lives in other productions all over the country. Costume Design For the Nutcracker I was asked to create several inspirational sketches that could be use to help inspire the costume design for the production Set Design The Nutcracker sets were a combination of flats and drops.
