Here is the aluminum radiator in all its glory. Looking at this
picture really shows how ugly it is under the hood. Maybe some day
I might get around to cleaning it up under there.....
Here you see the lower hose, and the left side mounting bracket and
bolt. You can also see the big gap between the old radiator support
and the new radiator. The old radiator used to sit in that space,
but the new one is much wider so it won't fit in the space allocated for
it.
Here is the passenger side. You see the upper hose, my electric
fan temp sensor, and you can also see how close it is to the battery.
In order to give adequate clearance to put the upper hose on I had to shift
the radiator 1/4" towards the drivers side, so it isn't quite centered
in the radiator support.
Here are the upper mounts. They are simply 6" long bolts that
go through the radiator then bolt to the radiator support. I used
aluminum tubing for spacers on the bolts.
Here you can see the little bit of room I have to put the upper hose
on. Any ideas as to make it work without having the radiator not
centered would be welcome!
Here is one of the bottom mounts. It is simply a piece of thin
steel, in the shape of a U to help cradle the lower part of the radiator.
The bracket is held to the frame by one bolt run through an existing hole
in the lower frame rail.
Here are the new-used fans. I wanted to try a different fan setup
because my old ones didnt' seem like they were up to the task. I
got these out of a toyota or nissan, some import, they are very common
in the junk yards. They work great too! Between the aluminum
radiator and the electric fans, this thing is way cool! ;)
Here is the 1990 Crown Victoria water pump. I had to make many
new brackets for my alternator and my power steering pump to make it work.
But, it works, and it was only $50 new, so I see it as a success.
The aluminum pump weighs 5 lbs less than the cast iron one!
