When I asked my wife, Donna to help me with my family genealogy, I had never heard of most of the names
listed above! I needed a Tebbetts family history for my children and my grandchildren. I never thought this request would turn into a full time addiction for my
wife, or that I would have the pleasure of going along for the ride and learning
about all the other branches of my family tree.
I feel there is a need for me to explain about the Courtney-Jernigan
families. Two Jernigan boys married two Courtney girls and these four and all their children were closer to me than my own Tebbetts family. C. C.
Tebbetts (my grandfather) had moved all my aunts and uncles to Louisiana in
1929. The only time I was with any of the Tebbetts family was on vacation trips
in New Mexico or in Louisiana. The Courtney-Jernigan families became my full
time family. My grandmother, Minnie Agnes (Pendleton) Courtney, gave birth to my
mother Mary Jeanette, in 1907. Grandmother's oldest daughter, Lula
Marada (Courtney) Jernigan, gave birth to Roy Armond in 1913, Lottie Leona in 1914, and Herman
Hilton (Mike) in 1916. So my mother was an aunt by only six to nine years.
These three people became my surrogate aunts and uncles and their children became
like my first cousins not my second.
I hope this Genealogy and Family Web Site will help all the distant cousins to know more about the families that are in their genealogy.
The information we have placed in these files has come from many places and been verified or confirmed through many
sources. I know there will be many mistakes. This is my first and probably only Web Site.
Please help me fill in the blanks and add more family information about
these people. The books listed below were very informative about this
family.
The book by Mrs. May
(Tibbetts) Jarvis of California "Henry Tibbetts of Dover, New Hampshire and
Some of His Descendants"
Helped me align the first few generations in my
own mind.
"The Harts of Randolph County, West Virginia" (micro-film) Compiled and Edited by Katherine Hart Frame
"Van Hoose, Van Hooser, Van Huss Family in the United States"
Compiled by Joyce Lindstrom, Indexed by Rhonda Roederer
"Vol. #7 Mayflower Families
Through 5 Generations, Family of Peter Brown" and "Vol. #18 Mayflower Families
Through 5 Generations, Part 1, Family of Richard Warren" and Miscellaneous Mayflower Documents found in my wife's 3-ring Notebook
My largest thanks goes to my wife, Donna Brown (Settles) Tebbetts, for the
many hours of looking through the files at Ancestry.com, Genealogy.com and the Family History
Resource files of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints. Without her research
this Web Site would never have been completed.
There were many helpful Web Sites also, too many to try and list them on my first Web
Site.
I may add another page later on that will list these Web Sites, if there is enough
interest in where the information came from and the owners of the other Web
Sites are willing to share their information.
Donna's browsing on the web and through all the archives has let her build
several personal FAMILY 3-Ring Binders: 2 on Tebbetts, 1 on
Tinkham, 1 on Courtney, 1 on Jernigan, 1 on Birkett, 1 on
Pendleton, 1 on Howard, 1 on Krehbiel, 1 on Carr - Hall, 1 on Horn - Thigpen, 1 on
Van Hooser, as well as information gathered from various Web Sites and other people.
Donna's own family notebooks are three times this large, because her
family was much larger for each generation and goes back many years.
The information that I have included in this genealogy, may differ from what your
family records or information show. Please let me know and I will be happy to add anything to this Web Site that can be verified or confirmed. All family members
are asked to please send me their input or corrections to help sort out any mistakes. My
E-mail is at the bottom. I will answer any and all mail about anything and everything, the best I can.
