Descriptions:
Arts: performing,
creative and visual
Our club has participated
in
various forms of the arts during the club year. Examples
are craft workshops, book clubs and movie nights.
Conservation: beautification,
environmental action and
resource preservation
Conservation
efforts that our club participates in and encourages
include our
Lug-A-Mug program, where we encourage our members to bring their own
mug to
meetings in order to cut down on waste. Also: gardening, recycle, pollution issues,
outdoors and
hiking, etc
Current Affairs: local, national, and
international
Current
Affairs encompasses the areas of public safety, domestic
violence
shelters, veteran's affairs and international affairs. We have raised
money for
such organizations as the American Red Cross, among others. Past
projects have included; collecting/donating items for a local
battered women's shelter. Also we collected & donated phone-cards
for active-duty military personnell.

Education: school
priorities, scholarships, community
education
In the
field of education, each year our club awards scholarships to local
high
school graduating seniors. In the past we have hosted a spelling bee for 5th & 6th grade
students,
from
which the winner advances to the statewide CJW spelling bee.
We also support Project Graduation and an annual Teacher’s Appreciation Luncheon.
Health:
physical,
mental health and substance abuse
We
have provided volunteer support for a flu clinic sponsored by the
Social Services Dept. We have distributed educational material to
our members and have hosted a Kid’s Health & Safety
Fair.
Homelife: community
living, youth and gerontology
Our
club
has participated in many projects within this committee. From
food
donations for local food banks to holiday gift baskets for needy
families, our club is involved in many
activities within our community. We recently prepared Christmas
stocking with candies, books and toys for several local families
facing various
hardships. Some other projects incluce a Halloween party
for seniors, a Halloween
party
for kids, a St Pats
brunch for seniors and many more.
Membership:
The
goals of the membership committee are member retention,
organization of
social activities and new member recruitment. This committee provides
support
for current and new members as well as membership items such as pins
and
maintains the member data records. We recognize birthdays, anniversaries and junior
moments. We organize socials, secret pals,
member lists and badges. We host an annual holiday potluck dinner
and grab-bag.
Newsletter:
Our club publishes a
monthly newsletter to notify members of club
happenings, remind of upcoming events and share and care.
Ways & Means:
This
committee's function is to raise money to keep our club financed
from year
to year. Our major fundraiser each year generally derives from the
Durham Fair.
Fund raisers include; Durham Fair, selling
Middlefield blankets and ornaments,
Yankee Candles, Middlefield T-shirts, etc.
Publicity: - Writes & collects newspaper
articles, takes photos at our events, creates press books.
Hospitality:: makes coffee, sets up tables and
request healthy/sweet foods. Lately this
responsibility has been rotated amoungst the different committees.
