One of the answers lies in the peak pulse voltage which the desulfator produces across the battery terminals. Pulse voltage is a fairly accurate indicator of the internal condition of a battery. A sulfated battery will cause a high pulse voltage to appear due to the high internal resistance which sulfation causes. Batteries that are cleaned up or new result in low pulse voltages.
If you are able to read pulse voltage, you can detect what kind of shape your batts are in. During recovery operations, when the reading stabilizes (lowest reading over a period of time), the battery is recovered. To meet this need, I have developed a digital readout, peak reading volt meter option for the standard pulser module.
The LCD will display peak pulse volts or battery volts (switch on the right - center off).
The LED is an activity light indicating that the pulser is generating desulfation pulses
The switch on the left is to select the thermistor resistor string for recovery pulsing (up) or standard timing pulsing for comparative readings (down).

$135 Pulser/Peak Meter parts kit w/case
generic PCB that is cut and drilled to fit the case
555 base pulser with thermistor safeguard and zener diode protection
Digital LCD voltage meter
Switch for set and max pulse
Switch for pulse and battery voltage
LED pulsing activity light
$20.00 4.5 digit display option (shown above)
$65 Standalone Peak meter - Switch selectable to read battery or pulse voltage
$195 Pulser/Peak Meter - Eliminates guesswork on when battery is recovered by reading the pulse voltage which reduces as the battery desulfates
Pulser is switch selectable from Max pulse to set pulse for comparative
readings
Digital Meter is switch selectable for either pulse voltage or battery
voltage
LED indicates pulsing activity
Banana sockets for meter leads
Meter leads with battery clamps and Banana plugs
$20.00 4.5 digit display option (shown above)
* The assembled models come complete with leads and battery clamps
ready to use. The meter will come roughly calibrated.

WARNING: Only connect these devices after the battery area has been/is
well ventilated. These devices spark when connected. Failure to follow
this precaution may result in the ignition of a hydrogen/oxygen pocket
and result in property damage, severe bodily injury or death.
CAUTION: The circuits depicted on this web site are not FCC approved.
They are only suggested configurations of parts which will work but are
not a finished product. FCC approval can be obtained by providing the
necessary shielding to meet their requirements and application to that
organization. Other government agencies may have a vested interest in a
finished product configuration depending on the area that you live.
