Sunday Services
We conduct Sunday morning programs at 10 a.m. from September (beginning the first Sunday after Labor Day) through the end of May.There are no services during the summer.
Our programs vary in content and style from week to week. Some programs are conducted by Fellowship members, others by outside speakers and guest ministers.
We light our chalice candle each Sunday with the following words:
We light this candle for truth;
May the love of truth be with us always.
We light this candle for love;
May love for others be strong in our hearts.
Our young people usually attend the first part of the service which begins with opening music and the lighting of the Fellowship candle. They participate in a "Moments for Young People" and have an opportunity to express joys and concerns before they depart for their own Sunday programs while we sing them out with "This Little Light of Mine." Collectively, our young people's program is known as the "Upstairs Fellowship," since most of their meeting rooms are upstairs from the adult meeting room. Occasionally, youth will remain with the adult congregation for an intergenerational service.
Though there is no one "typical" service, most Sundays include readings and singing as well as a sermon or other presentation, as well as announcements and time for adult joys and concerns. Almost all of our programs also include an opportunity for discussion following the presentation as well as during the coffee hour which follows the service. We also have a Christmas Eve service and an Easter service (preceded by a breakfast and followed by a very popular "Easter egg roll"). In most years, we also enjoy one Sunday service presented by the youth of our Religious Exploration program.
A list of Sunday morning program topics and speakers appears on our home page and in each monthly issue of our newsletter, HEED.
Other Activities
In addition to Sunday morning programs, we conduct occasional adult workshops and other evening programs, periodic potluck luncheons, a December holiday fair, an annual picnic, play readings, and other activities, all of which are announced in our newsletter.
